Malta’s cultural calendar is heating up with a vibrant lineup of festivals running from May to July, showcasing the island’s creative spirit across music, dance, and the arts.
Hosted by Festivals Malta, these events celebrate both tradition and innovation – making them not only cultural highlights but also important touchpoints in the country’s growing creative economy.
Ritmu Roots Festival
Ritmu Roots Festival brings together various artists, in a showcase of contemporary performances, presenting modern interpretations of traditional sounds.
This year the festival will include local għana music, traditional games such as logħob tal-boċċi, and will feature also international artists such as Tarta Relena, Pliri Ntaxei and Vincent Moon.
“Ritmu is a platform where communities come together through music and are able to participate in traditional activities rooted in community,” said Artistic Director Andrew Alamango.
Malta International Arts Festival
Set against the stunning backdrop of the Grand Harbour, the Malta International Arts Festival features multidisciplinary performances in unique venues, such as the subterranean 16th-century cistern built by the Knights of St. John.
This year the festival will include projects by the Malta Philarmonic Orchestra, Underground Valletta and MAD – Music and Dance.
“The festival’s innovative programme features and contemporary aesthetic in various cultural sites, aimed to feature cultural heritage as part of the unique experience of this festival,” said Artistic Director Ruben Zahra.
Malta Jazz Festival
This year the Malta Jazz Festival is set to have a diverse line-up, with international jazz legends such as Michael Mayo, Knower, Rebecca Martin and Peter Barnstein.
Artistic Director Sandro Zerafa said that that this 35th edition of the Malta Jazz Festival promises to bring together integrity, excellence and eclecticism.
Dance Festival Malta
This festival aims to connect local artists with several European artists by offering them a platform to discuss, share, and develop their artistic work through specialised masterclasses and workshops.

“Through the power of movement and dance, the festival brings together various cultures, generations, and different voices and unites people in a community,” said Artistic Director Francesca Tranter.

The festivals are backed by the Ministry for National Heritage, the Arts and Local Government, as part of a broader strategy to elevate Malta’s cultural profile, empower artists, and enrich the tourism and investment landscape through creative industries.
