FinanceMalta is exploring the possibility of hosting a dedicated financial services event in New York in spring 2027 as it seeks to strengthen Malta’s presence in the North American market.
Speaking during FinanceMalta’s annual networking event, Chairman George Vella said the organisation is engaging with relevant stakeholders, including the US Embassy in Malta, to explore opportunities for the event.
The initiative would build on FinanceMalta’s international outreach activities in key financial centres, including its established presence at the annual Guildhall event in London.
Mr Vella said that as financial services become increasingly global, investors and businesses are seeking jurisdictions that can combine regulatory certainty and specialist expertise with strong international connectivity.
He said strengthening Malta’s presence in strategic markets remains a key priority in promoting the jurisdiction’s capabilities and creating new opportunities for the local financial services ecosystem.
“Malta’s financial services sector has always been built on strong international relationships and in this increasingly competitive international environment, maintaining Malta’s visibility among investors and decision-makers will be essential to sustaining long-term growth,” Mr Vella said.
He added that stronger links between Malta and the United States present an opportunity to deepen FinanceMalta’s engagement with North American investors, businesses and professional communities.
“Our ambition is to continue showcasing Malta’s strengths as a trusted, specialised and forward-looking international financial centre. By working together with industry stakeholders and national partners, we can ensure that Malta remains well positioned in an increasingly competitive global environment,” Mr Vella added.
The event was also addressed by FinanceMalta Chief Strategy Officer Bernice Buttigieg, who announced the publication of FinanceMalta’s Annual Report for 2025.
Dr Buttigieg said the report highlights how FinanceMalta’s efforts, together with its close collaboration with the Malta Financial Services Advisory Council, continue to provide direction to an industry that has established itself as one of Malta’s strongest economic pillars.
The financial services sector currently employs close to 20,000 people and continues to generate opportunities that extend beyond the industry itself, she said.
“Effective international promotion of Malta’s capabilities is essential to ensuring that the country continues to compete successfully for high-value investment, talent and business opportunities,” Dr Buttigieg said.
She added that the North American market represents an important opportunity for Malta’s financial services sector, particularly as businesses continue to seek jurisdictions offering expertise, accessibility and a stable regulatory environment.
