Malta’s appeal rests on a combination of genuine qualities and a highly effective MICE infrastructure, ensuring that customers are trusting their business to true professionals. Contrary to what some may expect, the country’s small size is actually a major competitive advantage, with short transfer times allowing delegates to make the best use of their time. Apart from impressive hotels and conference centres, Malta also offers event planners truly unique locations with a strong ‘wow factor’. Venues under the management of Heritage Malta – from historic fortifications and Knights-era palazzos to Neolithic temples – can transform events into memorable experiences.
Other factors are the climate, which allows event planners to confidently incorporate significant outdoor elements into their programmes, and Malta’s safety and political stability – which we all know is a non-negotiable for large international corporate groups. The widespread use of English and the country’s membership of the eurozone and Schengen area also contribute to a smooth and effortless experience for planners and delegates alike.
My main advice centres on maximising the island’s unique offerings and strategic support – book early, partner wisely and discuss locally to look at all available options, including the non-mainstream ones, for a memorable and unique event.
Make it a point to secure unique venues well ahead of time. The islands’ most coveted historic forts and palazzos are in high demand, particularly during peak season. Book them immediately after securing your primary conference hotel and dates. This will all be part of the authentic Maltese experience.
Engaging local partners like a Malta Tourism Authority-approved Quality Assured DMC will equip you with the relationships and local knowledge to deliver bespoke experiences and streamline logistics, while VisitMalta Incentives and Meetings (VMIM) provide excellent, impartial support, free advice and access to incentives schemes – testament to the Maltese Government’s support and presence in this sector.
A final word of advice to event planners is to embrace all seasons. For large conferences, targeting the quieter and shoulder months (January to May and October/November) often offers better value, greater venue availability and still guarantees beautiful weather for outdoor events over most dates.
Malta delivers a premium, efficient and culturally rich experience that extends well beyond the meeting room. That is why I recommend Malta for almost all types of conferences, events, product launches, and incentives. It will be not only a memorable one, but a successful one too!
