Malta offers a unique blend of lifestyle and opportunity. From a personal perspective, the country sits at the crossroads of cultures, creating a naturally open and welcoming environment. You enjoy perfect weather and are surrounded by the sea, which makes everyday life exceptional – like working in a holiday destination.
From a business perspective, Malta has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years. It is a small country with a global outlook, where entrepreneurship is encouraged and the ecosystem is agile, supportive and well-structured. In my own journey, Malta has been the enabler that allowed my company to grow from zero to a multi-billion-euro asset manager headquartered on the island. The combination of strong regulatory standards, high-quality service providers, a stable environment, and Government support for the financial sector positions Malta as a compelling platform for ambitious leaders looking to build international businesses.
In short, Malta offers the best of both worlds: an attractive location for both lifestyle and professional growth.
Settling in Malta was surprisingly smooth. Its Mediterranean identity, with a warm and friendly culture, makes it easy to feel at home from day one. Socially, the island has a vibrant and diverse international community, with expats from all over Europe and beyond, so you quickly build friendships and feel integrated.
Malta also offers a fantastic lifestyle: countless restaurants and bars, a very active social scene and plenty of outdoor activities all year round thanks to the climate. And if you love the sea, Malta is paradise – sailing, swimming, diving… the opportunities are endless. From a family-life perspective it is excellent, as we found good schooling for our three daughters and a family-oriented culture.
From a professional standpoint, the work environment is dynamic and international, which helps you integrate quickly and feel part of a growing ecosystem.
Look at Malta not just as a small island, but as a strategic platform. If your business has an international dimension – Europe, Africa, Middle East – Malta offers access to all three with a stable regulatory environment, strong institutions and a highly connected financial services ecosystem.
Invest early in local relationships. The strength of Malta lies in its community: regulators who are accessible, service providers who move fast and a business culture built on trust and collaboration. Once you are integrated into this ecosystem, execution becomes much easier.
Also, take advantage of the island’s international talent pool and its large expat community. You will find people from everywhere, often with exactly the global mindset you need to scale a business beyond Malta.
Finally, come with ambition. Malta rewards those who build, invest and think globally. It has been a growth catalyst for us, and it can be the same for any entrepreneur or investor looking to use its strategic position to expand internationally.
