TradeMalta has opened applications for the fourth edition of the Malta International Business Awards (MIBA), which recognise Maltese businesses that successfully export their products and services overseas.
The awards are open to Malta-based businesses operating in international markets, including established exporters, companies entering new markets, and businesses expanding or diversifying their overseas operations.
Applications will remain open until 16th November 2026, with participation free of charge for the first time.
Five awards will be presented across four categories - Micro and Small Exporter Excellence Award, Medium and Large Exporter Excellence Award, Emerging Exporter Award, and Export Innovation and Diversification Award.
The four category winners will then compete for the Overall Export Excellence Award, which recognises outstanding achievement in international business.
TradeMalta CEO Tania Brown said the awards aim to recognise businesses contributing to Malta's international economic presence, regardless of whether they are entering their first overseas market or already operating internationally.
"Whether entering a first international market or building an established global presence, every step towards international growth strengthens Malta's competitiveness," she said.
"If your business is building its future beyond Malta, we want to hear your story."
TradeMalta Chairperson Daniel Galea said the initiative also aims to encourage other Maltese businesses to explore opportunities overseas.
"Through these awards, we aim to showcase their success, inspire others to follow their example and encourage more businesses to take their next steps internationally," he said.
Meanwhile, Malta Chamber CEO Marthese Portelli stressed that international expansion is particularly important for Maltese businesses due to the limitations of the domestic market.
"As an island state with an open economy, domestic growth will always reach physical boundaries. If our businesses want to scale, internationalisation is not merely an alternative path – it is an economic imperative," she said.
HSBC Malta Head of Commercial Banking Joyce Grech, who previously served on the awards' judging panel, said she had been impressed by the quality of Maltese exporters' products and services, as well as their determination to expand internationally.
She encouraged eligible companies to submit applications, arguing that their achievements could inspire other businesses to explore overseas opportunities.
The awards are organised by TradeMalta in collaboration with HSBC Bank Malta as strategic partner and with the participation of Grant Thornton. They are also endorsed by the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and The Malta Chamber.
Businesses interested in participating can apply through TradeMalta's official website or contact [email protected].
