De La Rue officially inaugurated an expansion of its Bulebel factory today.
The banknote manufacturing firm announced the expansion in 2022, pledging to invest around €60 million to turn its facilities into a state-of-the-art manufacturing site.
At today’s inauguration, De La Rue CEO Clive Vacher said the investment was a sign of trust in Malta, which he described as one of the most business-friendly and supportive jurisdictions in the world.
Prime Minister Robert Abela stressed that such investments should never be taken for granted but are the fruit of a climate of trust, stability, and economic policies that support businesses and families.
De La Rue was founded by Guernsey printer Thomas De La Rue in the early 1800s and has been manufacturing banknotes in Malta since 1975. It prints banknotes for around 140 jurisdictions and is the exclusive supplier of banknotes for the Bank of England.
Last year, De La Rue was acquired by US investment firm Atlas Holdings for around £263m (€304.22m).
