The Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) has joined the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) as a Destination Partner, strengthening Malta’s engagement with the global travel and tourism industry ahead of the WTTC Global Summit 2026.
The partnership comes as Malta prepares to host the WTTC Global Summit in Valletta from 7th to 9th October 2026. The event is expected to bring together leading figures from the international tourism sector, including CEOs, government ministers, investors and industry leaders, placing Malta at the centre of global discussions on the future of Travel & Tourism.
For Malta, hosting the Summit represents an important opportunity not only to showcase the country’s tourism offering, but also to highlight its attractiveness as a destination for international investment, business and collaboration. Discussions around sustainable growth, innovation and the continued development of a high-quality tourism sector are expected to create opportunities for both local and international stakeholders.
The WTTC Global Summit will also provide a platform for Malta’s tourism industry to engage directly with global decision-makers, investors and industry leaders, potentially opening the door to new partnerships and investment opportunities across the sector.
Minister for Tourism Jo Etienne Abela said that “Malta’s partnership with the World Travel & Tourism Council comes at an important moment for our tourism sector and for our country as we prepare to welcome the world to Valletta for the 2026 Global Summit. This Destination Partnership strengthens Malta’s engagement with leading voices in the global tourism industry and provides an important platform to share our experience, while also learning from international partners and identifying new opportunities for sustainable growth.”
“Hosting the WTTC Global Summit is a recognition of Malta’s growing role on the international tourism stage, and we look forward to using this opportunity to showcase the very best of the Maltese Islands and our vision for the future of tourism,” the minister said.
WTTC President & CEO Gloria Guevara said, “As Malta prepares to host WTTC’s Global Summit in Valletta, it will have the opportunity to showcase its unique heritage, hospitality, and vision for sustainable growth to industry leaders from around the world.”
The CEO of MTA, Carlo Micallef, explained that “becoming a Destination Partner with the WTTC is a major step for the Malta Tourism Authority. This partnership gives Malta a direct platform to connect with top decision-makers across the global travel industry. As we prepare to host the 2026 Global Summit in Valletta, aligning with the WTTC highlights our strong commitment to continue developing a sustainable and resilient tourism industry for the Maltese Islands building on the unique experiences and rich heritage that only Malta can offer.”
The partnership comes as Malta seeks to further consolidate its position within the international tourism market, with the 2026 WTTC Global Summit providing an opportunity to reinforce the country’s profile as a year-round destination and engage with some of the sector’s most influential stakeholders.
With Malta hosting one of the global tourism industry’s most significant events, the WTTC Global Summit 2026 is set to provide a valuable platform for the country to promote its economic strengths, strengthen international connections and position itself for further sustainable growth in the years ahead.
