Tourist spending in Malta reached €547.6 million in August 2025, an increase of 15 per cent compared to August 2024, according to newly published figures by the National Statistics Office (NSO).
The surge in tourism spending underscores Malta’s continued strength as a premier destination for international visitors and a driver of the local economy.
Malta welcomed an estimated 470,643 inbound tourists during the month, with 450,599 visiting for leisure and 11,039 for business purposes.
The largest share of arrivals were aged between 0 and 24 (37.1 per cent), followed by the 25-44 age group (34.2 per cent). Italian, British, and French residents made up 48.5 per cent of total tourists.
Visitors spent a total of 3.5 million nights, up 10.5 per cent from August 2024, with 86.1 per cent of nights in rented accommodations. The average length of stay stood at 7.4 nights, reflecting both the attractiveness and the staying power of Malta as a destination.
Visits to Gozo and Comino totalled 326,196, representing 69.3 per cent of total tourists, including both same-day and overnight visitors.
January to August 2025
From January to August 2025, inbound tourists totalled 2,681,635, marking a 12 per cent increase over the same period last year. Total nights spent rose to 16.9 million, up 10.4 per cent, while total tourist expenditure reached €2.56 billion, an 18.2 per cent increase compared to 2024. The average expenditure per visitor rose to €956, highlighting strong economic contributions from the tourism sector.
During this period, 1,577,212 visitors (58.8 per cent of total tourists) explored Gozo and Comino, including both same-day and overnight trips.
