Malta’s position as a leading investment destination in the aviation sector has been further reinforced with Ryanair’s latest expansion. The low-cost airline announced six new routes to Malta this winter, alongside the inauguration of its new state-of-the-art offices in Pietà.
David O’Brien, CEO of Malta Air and Lauda Europe, said the investment underlines the group’s long-term confidence in Malta. The new offices will create 70 additional high-quality jobs, bringing Ryanair’s Malta-based workforce to over 500 professionals across engineering, finance, HR, safety, pilots and cabin crew.
“Malta continues to provide a business-friendly environment with readily accessible and responsive Governmental institutions,” Mr O’Brien noted, adding that Ryanair will continue to channel significant investment into Malta to strengthen the aviation sector further.
The expansion was welcomed by Prime Minister Robert Abela, who described it as a symbol of confidence in Malta’s workforce, economy and future. He also highlighted the airline’s new aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility, which is expected to generate 250 highly skilled jobs.
Currently, Ryanair has eight aircraft based in Malta, with a ninth set to join the fleet shortly.
The aviation industry plays a vital role in Malta’s economy, contributing around €600 million annually, supporting thousands of jobs, and ensuring seamless connectivity for millions of passengers.
