Palumbo shipyards’ schedule is already booked for the next two years, revealed CEO Antonio Palumbo in an interview with the Super Yacht Times.
“We are delighted to share that we have numerous exciting projects underway and are currently discussing and planning even more,” Mr Palumbo explained.
A key player in the maritime sector, Palumbo SY Refit is part of the Palumbo Group, founded in 1967, which operates seven shipyards across Europe, including in Malta, Marseille, and Naples.
The company’s presence in Malta is pivotal, as the island solidifies its position as a premier hub for high-value maritime services and advanced ship maintenance.
“Great emphasis is placed on planning work in advance to achieve results that exceed owners’ expectations, including delivery times,” remarked Antonio Palumbo, CEO of Palumbo SY Refit.
“Clients rely on us for complex conversions, as we have a strong background in this area. The growing demand for sustainable systems and innovative materials is also reshaping the approach to refit projects.”
Palumbo SY Refit’s Malta facility has recently completed extensive projects on two major vessels: M/Y Wheels (75.5m) and M/Y U-81 (80.1m). The refits included structural enhancements, sustainability upgrades, and precision engineering modifications, reinforcing Malta’s role in the superyacht industry.
“Our team meticulously planned and coordinated efforts across departments, including metal construction, piping, hydraulics, electrical cabling, and painting,” explained Simon Zammit, Shipyard Manager at Palumbo SY Refit Malta. “Despite tight deadlines, we successfully delivered the projects on time, demonstrating our expertise in handling large-scale refits.”
The shipyard’s full booking schedule translates into long-term stability and economic benefits for Malta. Increased employment opportunities, higher engagement with local suppliers, and a strengthened reputation in the global maritime industry are just some of the positive outcomes.
Mr Palumbo concluded, “We are delighted to share that we have numerous exciting projects underway and are currently discussing and planning even more.”
With a strong pipeline and a commitment to innovation, Palumbo SY Refit’s presence in Malta is not only elevating the country’s maritime industry but also securing its position as a leading player in the global refit market.
