Malta’s collective accommodation sector demonstrated robust performance in the second quarter of 2025, registering significant growth in both guest numbers and nights stayed when compared to the same period last year.

According to the latest data by the National Statistics Office, total guests in establishments such as hotels, guesthouses, and tourist apartments amounted to 761,184 between April and June. This represents a notable increase of 8.1 per cent over the second quarter of 2024.

The positive trend was even more pronounced in the total number of nights spent by guests, which reached 3,314,260. This figure marks a substantial 9.9 per cent rise year-on-year, indicating that visitors are opting for longer stays on the islands.

A breakdown of the data shows that 4-star hotels remained the most popular choice for travellers, accounting for nearly half of all guest nights. Specifically, 49.5 per cent of all nights spent in collective accommodation were in 4-star establishments.

Furthermore, the sector saw improved efficiency, with the net use of bed-places reaching 71.8 per cent. This key performance indicator, which measures occupancy, increased by 2.8 percentage points compared to the second quarter of 2024, reflecting stronger demand for available accommodation.
