FinanceMalta is set to host its first public speaking masterclass later this month.
The two-day programme, scheduled for 21st–22nd April at Trident Park, is aimed at equipping finance professionals with communication skills increasingly viewed as critical in international financial markets.
According to FinanceMalta Chief Strategy Officer Bernice Buttigieg, the initiative reflects a shift in how firms compete globally.
“The financial services industry is increasingly defined by precision, regulation and numbers, and communication is often treated as a secondary skill,” she noted, adding that the ability to present complex ideas clearly and persuasively is becoming a “strategic asset” in its own right.
The programme will focus on practical scenarios such as investor pitches, boardroom presentations and media engagement, with participants undergoing simulated exercises designed to improve clarity, delivery and narrative-building.
Dr Buttigieg highlighted that financial firms are no longer judged solely on performance metrics, but also on how effectively they communicate strategy and value to stakeholders.
“Firms no longer compete only on performance but also on narrative,” she said, pointing to rising expectations from investors, regulators and international partners.
The initiative also forms part of FinanceMalta’s wider strategy to move beyond promotion into capacity-building, as Malta seeks to reinforce its position as an international financial centre.
In this context, the ability of Malta-based professionals to engage confidently with global audiences is seen as increasingly important, particularly as firms participate in overseas roadshows and investor-facing events.
Dr Buttigieg concluded that while technical expertise remains fundamental, it is no longer sufficient on its own.
“Competitive international environments demand clarity, confidence and credibility,” she said, adding that communication is now as critical as technical capability in shaping outcomes within the sector.
