The value of goods exported from Malta to Turkey jumped by €77.9 million in the first months of 2025, with the country emerging as the top growth market for Maltese exports.
New data published by the National Statistics Office (NSO) shows that exports to Turkey increased by over 500 per cent.
The remarkable increase was only topped by the value of goods exported to South America, which increased by over 630 per cent. However, this increase from a far lower floor, with just €3.9 million exported in the first six months of 2024, rising to €24.9 million in the same period of 2025.
On the whole, Malta’s exports fell by 8.8 per cent, with the biggest drop seen in trade with the United States, which plunged by €118.1 million (60 per cent).
By sector, the biggest falls in exports were in machinery and transport equipment (€203.5 million) and mineral fuels, lubricants and related materials (€65.2 million). These were partly offset by a €29.6 million rise in miscellaneous transactions and commodities.
The EU remained Malta’s leading export destination (35.3 per cent), followed by Asia, which accounted for 12.9 per cent of exports.
